Setting up Stripe payments
Docora uses bring-your-own-key Stripe: you paste a restricted API key, and Docora creates a webhook for your account automatically. There is no Docora platform Stripe account in the middle.
Where to configure
Settings → Invoice Payment Method (/dashboard/settings?section=invoice-payment).
Steps
- In the Stripe Dashboard, create a Restricted key (or use a secret key in development carefully).
- Grant the key Write access to at least:
- Checkout Sessions
- Payment Intents
- Webhook Endpoints
- In Docora, paste the key into Your Stripe Restricted Key (keys start with
rk_orsk_, test or live). - Click Save. Docora validates the key and attempts to create a webhook at
/api/webhooks/stripe/{yourUserId}forcheckout.session.completed. - Optionally set Default payment method to Stripe for new invoices.
You can Replace or Remove the key later from the same settings panel.
How clients pay
On invoices using Stripe checkout (automatic), the client clicks Pay Now on the public invoice page. Stripe Checkout collects payment. When the webhook fires successfully, Docora marks the invoice Paid and sends paid / thank-you emails.
Setup complete vs Pay Now
- Pay Now can work once the API key is saved.
- Automatic Paid status needs a working webhook (key + webhook signing secret). If checkout succeeds but status stays Sent, see Why isn’t my payment showing as paid and Common Stripe setup issues.
This documentation is a living guide and may not cover every edge case yet. Features and labels can change as Docora evolves.
